Life Transitions
Navigating Change with Strength and Grace
Feeling overwhelmed by a major life change—whether it’s been a long time coming or a swift change?
Struggling to find your footing after a loss, career shift, or major transition?
Has the death of a love done left you feeling unsure how to move forward?
Are milestones like entering a second marriage or becoming an empty nester bringing unexpected anxiety?
Many women navigating life transitions feel overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain. These shifts can lead to loneliness, self-doubt, and the pressure of balancing others’ expectations with personal fulfillment.
What are Life Transitions?
Life transitions is a term often used to describe a major event in one’s life and the subsequent adjustment period that follows. Although there is typically one main event, it often has a ripple effect of smaller changes that together alter one’s life. Examples of common life transitions include getting married, becoming a parent, career changes, caring for aging parents, coming out, relocation, identity shifts, empty-nest, and death of a loved one.
Despite the universality of certain life transitions, a person’s unique combination of characteristics, circumstances, and history result in a variety of reactions to these changes. With less common experiences, it can be hard to find someone to relate to, resulting in feelings of isolation. These life transitions don’t have to be navigated alone—an experienced therapist can provide understanding and support.

Frustration and guilt adjusting to a blended family or pursing personal goals
Emotional exhaustion
Loneliness or isolation

Pressure from societal, cultural, or family expectations
Physical symptoms like sleeplessness, tension, or fatigue
Therapy Can Support Women During Life Transitions
Women experience multiple transitions during their lives. Whether it’s going off to college, starting a new job, moving in with a partner, getting divorced, or adjusting to retirement, women are evolving throughout their lives.
Other factors, such as their family of origin, partner, children, culture, community, and broader society often complicate the navigation through transitions. Things can get even more challenging when women are going through multiple transitions during the same period.
If you’re going through life’s transitions, know that it’s not unusual to feel overwhelmed or uncertain during life’s transitions—these changes can shake even the strongest foundations. With the support and guidance an experienced life transitions therapist has to offer, however, you can navigate these changes with clarity, intention, and confidence!

Common Questions
I’m unsure that my issue is serious enough for therapy—should I wait to see if it gets worse?
It’s a common misconception that therapy is only for “big” problems. If something is affecting your peace of mind or emotional well-being, it’s worth addressing. Think death by a thousand cuts. Therapy isn’t just for major crises—it’s about giving yourself the space to feel heard, understood, and supported during life transitions. Sometimes the smallest shifts can lead to the biggest impacts in your life.
What if my therapist doesn’t understand my background or experiences?
While no therapist can fully know every lived experience, feeling understood is essential for a strong therapeutic relationship. I approach this work with humility, curiosity, and deep respect for your unique story. I do my part to understand the context of your experiences, so you're not carrying the extra burden of having to teach them. And if I ever miss the mark, I welcome open, honest dialogue—your voice matters here.
Is therapy worth the cost and time, especially if it’s private pay?
Navigating major life transitions often requires counseling that is customized to your unique journey. Private pay therapy removes the constraints of insurance, allowing us to focus on what matters most—your personal growth and resilience during this time of change. Clients often find that the freedom to tailor sessions and avoid rigid treatment plans makes the process more dynamic and aligned with their needs.
While I don’t accept insurance, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
